It is with deep sorrow that we are writing about the passing of our dear father, Dr. Jamal Barzinji. He was a principled man with a kind heart, gentle character, and upright demeanor.
Dr. Barzinji’s impact on the American community at large has been unforgettable. We are reminded again and again of the foundations he built by seeing the fruits of his work till this day. Since coming to the United States in the 1960s, Dr. Barzinji co-founded multiple organizations such as The Muslim Students’ Association, Islamic Society of North America, Association of Muslim Social Scientists, Association of Muslim Scientists and Engineers, along with serving and being involved in multiple other organizations. Dr. Barzinji served as the President for MSA National in 1972.
In these blessed days of sacrifice, Dr. Barzinji passed away. Dr. Barzinji sacrificed his entire life in the service of others. To honor his legacy, let us continue to serve the community and our college campuses. May he be rewarded with the highest levels of Paradise. Ameen.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of God (Peace and blessings be upon him) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” (Sahih Muslim)
