MSA-National Statement on New York City Police Department Surveillance Program targeting Muslims Court Decision Oct 13,2015
MSA-National applauds the decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit with regards to the NYPD surveillance program targeting Muslims and Muslim students. They have affirmed, in their decision that:
“The allegations in Plaintiffs’ Complaint tell a story in which there is standing to complain and which present constitutional concerns that must be addressed and, if true,redressed.”
The court has affirmed that MSA-National has standing to litigate the issue of the constitutional breaches that occurred when Muslims students were targeted solely on the basis of religion, creed and appearance. We live in a nation that holds fast to the Jeffersonian principle enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, “that We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Muslims are a part of the great American mosaic. Muslim students deserve every protection under the law and should not be discriminated against for any reason. History has proven that an entire ethnic or religious group should never be targeted because of widespread hysteria and incorrect perceptions.
The courageous stance Muslim college and university students have taken to stand up for all of our rights is inspiring, and for this the entire community is indebted.
